ABOUT US

The aim of Sweden Rugby League is to establish the sport of rugby league in Sweden and to help with the development of the sport within Scandinavia.

Rugby league is fast, physical and has much on offer for players and spectators respectively. It is a growing sport in Europe and it would be great to introduce the game here. Many countries have successfully introduced the game including our neighbours Norway and Denmark, and I believe it could be a success here in Sweden too.

The game is easy for new commers to learn and we are particular interested in introducing Swedish players to the sport.

The first Swedish participation in rugby league was when Spartacus rugby club in Gothenburg sent a team to the 2009 Scandinavian Rugby League 9's Tournment in Oslo.

In May of 2010, Sweden Rugby League organised the 2010 Scandinavian 10's Rugby League Tournament. Three Swedish clubs (Spartacus, Borås and Vänersborg) competed alongside two teams from Norway and one from Germany.

In October 2010, Sweden competed in its first ever Rugby League International when they recorded a 20-20 draw against our Neighbours Norway.

The next step in our development is to set up a league competition in Sweden for 2011. We are currently in discussion with a number of clubs who have expressed an interested in competing.

Rugby League is a great game that is simple to learn. All It doesn't matter if you're an experienced rugby player or new to the sport. All are welcome to join in
