Get involved
Developing a new sport to a country takes time. It will demand a considerable of effort and passion from all involved. SRL is seeking interested parties who would like to take part in the development of rugby league either as players, coaches or administrators. A team of people is needed to help get this project of the ground and help spread the word.
I live in Gothenburg so my efforts will be predominately focused here for the time being. It would be good to get some support from people in other locations to help with the promoting of the sport across the country. In 2010 I’ll be graduating from university and seeking employment as a English and PE teacher. On securing a job I will endeavour to establish the sport in schools and develop the sport within.
I believe that there is also an opportunity for rugby union clubs to benefit from getting involved. The union season is short, which creates the possibility of playing league outside of the union season, therefore not interfering with the playing of people’s preferred choice of rugby code. It can also be a way of recruiting players and support for your club. Rugby league less complicated than union and therefore easier to teach how to play and to referee. Through playing rugby league you extend the activity of rugby. It gives you the chance to practise your kicking, handling, tackling and defensive skills, not to mention fitness levels. All of which can assist your teams improvement.
